I got this via email from CNS (Citizen's Notification Alert) for Maryland:
...Governor Martin O’Malley has cancelled early voting for Monday, Oct. 29. At this time, early voting for Tuesday, Oct. 30 through Thursday, Nov. 1 is scheduled to take place as planned. Early voting hours for Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily.I thought that highlighted portion was interesting. So it sounds to me like even if weather screwed with election day, people would still get a chance to vote on an alternate day? At least that's the way I read it.Election Law provides that “[i]n the event of a state of emergency, declared by the Governor in accordance with the provisions of law, that interferes with the electoral process, the emergency proclamation may: (1) provide for the postponement, until a specific date, of the election in part or all of the State; (2) specify alternate voting locations; or (3) specify alternate voting systems.” Md. Code Ann., Election Law Article, Sec. 8-103(a).
The Governor’s Office and the Maryland Emergency Management Agency are actively monitoring weather developments in order to determine whether additional changes to the early voting schedule may be necessary to protect public safety.
So yeah, it sucks that early voting is cancelled for Monday, but it wasn't cancelled today, and it sure wasn't cancelled yesterday when my family went to vote!
